Why Ampersand?

When I first started my private practice nearly a decade ago, I chose a rather generic clinical name. It was suitable and fine, but it didn't truly represent me. I realized that I often discussed the idea of holding multiple truths simultaneously during sessions. I believe that a balanced life involves living in those in-between spaces. The and is where we find connection and meaning—your truth and my truth. I can be angry, afraid, and hurt all at once. Trying to eliminate the word "but" is certainly challenging. And when we do, we open up space for compromise and empathy, even if only for ourselves.
The ampersand symbolizes the joining of multiple things. It helps us move beyond either/or thinking and illustrates connection.
Plus if you squint a bit, it sort of looks like someone is reaching out with their hand & that's hard to resist.
